Every edition of the Goodwood Revival has a theme. The 2026 theme — La Dolce Vita, ‘the sweet life’, where chic Italian style, passion and romance weave their way through an unforgettable weekend — is not merely a decorative choice. It is an event-design decision that shapes the car classes, the music, the paddock atmosphere, the competitors and, critically for this guide, the international visitor profile.

La Dolce Vita is the cultural universe of Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Lancia in their 1950s and early 1960s pomp. Transporting a period racing car from California, from the Emilian workshop where it’s been prepared, from a collection in Stuttgart or a private garage in Nagoya to the pit lane at Goodwood Motor Circuit is not a simple operation. The process typically involves specialist classic car transport companies, enclosed trailer or air freight, temporary UK import permits under the Temporary Admission Relief procedure, Carnet de Passages for the vehicle itself, motor sport-specific insurance covering racing use, GRRC (Goodwood Road Racing Club) pit lane passes and event accreditation — each a document in a folder that grows thicker as the event approaches. The car’s logistics are a full-time organisational undertaking in themselves.

In this context, the owner’s personal UK ETA application — a 15-minute online form costing £20 — gets psychologically submerged. It is the simplest item on a very complex checklist. And because it is simple, it does not occupy the mental space that the car’s Carnet de Passages does. It’s sorted by the shipping company, by the GRRC membership, by the pit crew — except that it isn’t, because it can’t be. The UK ETA is a personal authorisation linked to an individual passport. No shipping company can apply on behalf of a car owner. No race team can submit a group application. No level of Goodwood membership substitutes for a UK ETA application filed by the individual themselves.

The Revival’s visitor profile is distinct from every other event in this series. It is predominantly an enthusiast audience — people who have come specifically because they understand and love the machinery, the period, the drivers and the culture. The international contingent is correspondingly focused and specific.

The Dress Code Dimension: The Only UK Event Where You Can Spend £2,000 on Your Costume and Still Miss the One 15-Minute Application

Goodwood Revival is the only major UK event where visitors are actively encouraged — and in practice socially expected — to dress in period clothing from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. • This planning effort is high-friction, expensive (£500–£2,000 for a good outfit is not unusual) and emotionally engaging
• The UK ETA application, by contrast, is low-friction, low-cost (£20) and, crucially, does not feel as important as the costume because it isn’t culturally central to what the Revival is about
• The result: international visitors who have sourced 1958 Alfa Romeo racing goggles from a specialist in Bologna have not yet submitted a 15-minute online form that will determine whether they can board their flight to Gatwick

The Racing Driver Category: International Competitors and Their Crews

The confirmed driver line-up for the 2026 Revival includes names from across the international motorsport world. Among the Formula 1 names joining us at this year’s Revival are Sir Jackie Stewart, Jacques Villeneuve, Jean Alesi, Jenson Button, John Watson, Karun Chandhok and Max Chilton. From the world of IndyCar and American open-wheel racing, the Revival welcomes Dario Franchitti, Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan.

The UK entry requirement for international racing drivers and their pit crews depends on each individual’s nationality:

• Drivers from Commonwealth nations or other visa-exempt countries (Jacques Villeneuve — Canadian; Scott Dixon — New Zealander; Karun Chandhok — British-Indian) — check each individual’s primary travel passport against our Eligibility page.

• Pit crew, mechanics and team staff travelling with international race entries need their own individual UK ETA applications based on their own passports. A team cannot apply for a group ETA — each person applies individually.
• Specialist mechanics and engineers from Italy, Germany, Belgium, France and other EU countries working in the paddock need UK ETAs regardless of whether they are employed by an international team or a British marque. Getting to Goodwood Circuit from International Airports

The Goodwood Motor Circuit is located near Chichester, West Sussex, around four miles from the city. The venue is accessible by car, with free parking available for all ticket holders. For those using public transport, the nearest train station is Chichester, with shuttle services provided to and from the circuit throughout the event.

For visitors arriving by private aircraft, Goodwood Aerodrome is directly on the Goodwood Estate, approximately 1 mile from the Motor Circuit. Private and charter flights can land directly at Goodwood. UK ETA requirements apply to all arrivals into UK airports and aerodromes regardless of whether they arrive on commercial or private aircraft — the ETA is a personal authorisation, not a transport-specific one.

1. Check your nationality’s requirement. Use our Eligibility & Eligible Countries page to confirm whether your passport requires a UK ETA, a Standard Visitor Visa, or no permission. US, EU, Japanese, UAE, Australian and Canadian nationals all need UK ETAs. 2. Apply individually — no group UK ETA application exists. Every car owner, crew member, spectator and family member applies on their own passport. The UK ETA application system is personal. A Goodwood membership, race entry confirmation or GRRC accreditation cannot substitute for an individual UK ETA application.
